PPL Theoretical Knowledge Course
How to study for the exams
There is no formal requirement to attend a ground school as the PPL exams can be self-studied.
However, we highly recommend students to attend an in-house groundschool course at any Cabair Flying School, or at EPTA Wycombe where a dedicated groundschool instructor can focus learning in the relevant areas and answer any queries that you may have then and there.
For the issue of either the JAA PPL or the NPPL, there is a requirement to pass the following ground examinations:
- Air Law
- Human Performance and Limitations
- Meteorology
- Aircraft Technical and Principles of Flight
- Flight Performance and Planning
- Navigation
- Communications
It is also necessary to pass a practical radio-telephony examination with an RT examiner. The exam papers are multiple-choice with a pass mark of 75%. You must then complete your flight training within 24 months of passing the last exam in the series.
What is the best way to pass the exams?
Groundschool is a great way of covering the syllabus in the most efficient way with a highly knowledgeable and dedicated groundschool instructor and most students find it easier to pass the exams this way than by ploughing through the text books alone.
Another great plus is the fact that you will get to know the other PPL students on the course and many flying partnerships have been borne out of groundschool friendships!
