EPTA provides flight training from gifts and first lessons, private pilot training and associated ratings, all the way through to commercial pilot training and instrument ratings.

For those wishing to begin a career in aviation commercially, we can take you every step of the way. See our Ab-initio flowchart for an example of the courses you will need to complete.

European Pilot Training Academy (EPTA) operates from our Wycombe Air Park site or from Bournemouth to suit your individual needs. There are also options to train at our overseas affiliates at Orlando Flight Training and Space Coast Aviation on Merritt Island.

The Private Pilot Licence (PPL) course is designed to teach you how to fly.

There are two types of licence available and which one you choose is dependent on what you want to do with your licence once you have achieved it and the level of medical fitness that you can demonstrate.

The JAR Private Pilot Licence (JAR PPL) is a European licence and is the licence to choose if you want to keep your options open for the future. At a later date you can add multi-engine, night, instrument and commercial ratings and privileges as you require. A medical certificate is required from an aviation medical examiner and is slightly more involved than that for an NPPL but achievable by the majority of prospective pilots.

The National Private Pilot Licence (NPPL) is designed for use inside United Kingdom airspace only and is slightly more restrictive in your future options. If you wish to continue your flight training onto multi-engined aircraft or towards a commercial licence then the NPPL is not for you. However, the medical requirements are less stringent than for the JAR PPL and the medical certificate is obtained through your own GP.

We offer a Five Hour Starter Package that will get you started on either licence and is a good opportunity to see what flight training is all about. If you have never been in a light aircraft before, then a Trial Lesson is a great way of double-checking that this is for you. Both of these are available at any Cabair Flying School - links to their web sites are seen right. You can also purchase Trial Lessons and Five Hour Packages online at www.flyingvouchers.com.

Both types of Private Pilot Licence include the necessity to pass some ground examinations. You can chose to self-study for these exams but we highly recommend our groundschool which will make the process much more enjoyable!
