Commercial Pilot's Licence (CPL)
Depending on your experience, budget and requirements, you may wish to do more hours on a complex aircraft since you will be taking your Skill Test in one.
Thus, your CPL course can be tailored to your requirements.
There is also a 15 hour course for pilots who already hold an IR.
Pre-entry Requirements
To commence the course:
- Valid JAA PPL (A)
- Class One medical (this may have expired but will need to be valid for licence issue)
- Valid RT Licence
- Pass in all ATPL examination subjects (prior to taking the skill test)
For licence issue
All above requirements plus 200 hours total time of which:
- 100 hours pilot in command
- 20 hours solo cross country flight
- 300nm cross country with two away landings
- 10 hours dual IF time (if no IR has previously been issued)
- 5 hours night (3 hrs dual, 1 hr cross-country, 5 solo take-off and full stop landings)
The Course
The Commercial Pilot Licence course consists of a minimum requirement of:
Flying
- 25 hours dual training of which 10 hours are instrument flying instruction and 5 hours are flown on a complex aircraft. 5 hours of the instrument flying requirement may be undertaken on a simulator
- Skills Test with a CAA examiner
Ground School
- There is no formal groundschool requirement on the CPL course, however you will be given study material to work through which will assist you to pass the oral section of the CPL(A) Skills Test.
